What is Act It Out?

UCSI Act It Out! is a two-part programme that will introduce you to the exciting world of drama and improvisation. Strengthen your critical thinking, writing and communication skills, and English language proficiency while you enjoy a drama workshop conducted by seasoned writers and performers, followed by a competition.

Outstanding teams and actors stand a chance to win these accolades:

* Trophy and certificates are awarded to the winners of each category
* Certificates of participation are given to teachers and students


  • Enhance your ability to cope efficiently and effectively with change.
  • Improve your listening and reading skills, in addition to comprehensibility in speaking and writing for the purpose of communicating to an audience in English.
  • Develop your confidence and ability to perform in public using English.


Elaine Foster is a spoken word poet, performer and a poetry and drama educator who has performed in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She directs both high school theatre productions and spoken word performances for children and adults. She designs and teaches curriculum in schools and organisations, using poetry, performance and storytelling to facilitate self-discovery, child development and to nurture a love for language. She also trains teachers and facilitators.

Elaine trained under Word Forward in Singapore where she taught children of all school ages and has also taught for The Academy, KLPAC and was the former poet-in-residence for Blubricks Learning Studio. Elaine collaborated with Astro for two consecutive years, to design and run English language workshops using poetry and drama for national schools road show tie in with Oh My English!

Elaine is a huge advocate for poetry education and through her work, continues to push poetry education into schools in Malaysia while creating platforms for poets to professionalise and develop their art and teaching practices. She runs a collective called Poetry Cafe in KL, which promotes poetry and poetry events in Malaysia and within the region, co-organizes international poet exchanges, including The KL Poetry Slam, The Youth Poetry Slam and The Big Fish - a storytelling event for big kids.


  • You must be aged 15 to 18 years old.
  • Only 10 students per school, excluding teachers.
  • Send your completed application form to Ang Ching Siang at angcs@ucsiuniversity.edu.my before 17th February 2017.

  • Breakfast and lunch will be provided to all participants.
  • Materials for the competition will be provided during the day of the event.
