Actuaries are professional deal with the financial impact of risk and uncertainty. They use skills in mathematics, economic, computer science, finance, probability and statistics, and business to assess the likelihood of occurrence of certain risky events formulate policies that minimize the cost of these risks. As such, actuaries are essential to the insurance and reinsurance industry. In addition, they can be consultants to other businesses, including sponsors of pension plans; and to government agencies such as bank Negara Malaysia. The 3-year BSc (Hons) Actuarial Science programme provides a solid grounding in mathematics, accounting, finance and statistic to integrate theories with actual experience and build a foundation for students to pursuit professional career in the financial risk management industry.

Students will be furnished with the essential leadership qualities, communication skills, problem-solving abilities, critical thinking, as well as entrepreneurial and managerial skills that will enable them to face the challenging yet exciting world, where risks can be turned into opportunities.


Assessments

The assessment includes a combination of examinations, projects and assignments, and finally a requirement to complete a dissertation in Independent Project in the final year. Students will acquire up-to-date vocational skills that are relevant and competitive. This reflects the complex and challenging nature of the accounting, finance and business realms.
Qualifications Academic Requirements
UCSI Foundation year Minimum CGPA of 2.5
STPM Minimum 2 principals (C) inclusive of B grade in Mathematics
A-Level Minimum 2 principals (E) inclusive of B grade in Mathematics
UEC Minimum 5 credits inclusive of B4 grade in Mathematics
National Matriculation Minimum CGPA of 2.5 inclusive of B grade in Mathematics
International Baccalaureate (IB) Minimum score of 26 points in 6 subjects inclusive of 4 or above in Mathematics
Canadian Pre-U Minimum average of 60% in 6 subjects & Minimum 60% score in Mathematics
SAM Minimum average of 60% in 5 subjects & Minimum 60% score in Mathematics
Australian Year 12 ATAR 65% & Minimum 60% scaled score in Mathematics
Other qualifications deemed equivalent to STPM/A-Level by Malaysian Qualifications Agency Minimum overall average of 60% & Minimum 60% score in Mathematics
Diploma (business-related) Minimum CGPA of 2.0 in related area

Other qualifications deemed equivalent to SPM/O-Level by Malaysian Qualifications Agency Minimum overall average of 60%
English Requirements
  • A distinction (A+, A or A-) in the English Language subject at SPM/UEC level; or MUET Band 5; or a score of 196 (computer-based) / 525 (writing-based) / 69-70 (internet-based) in TOEFL; or Band 5.5 in IELTS.
  • In the event that the English Language Requirements are not met, student may be required to undertake additional English module(s) prior to or concurrently with the undergraduate programme, based on the University’s decision.
* International students holding equivalent academic qualifications but which are not conducted in English, are required to sit for the English Placement Test, which may result in the taking of the English Enrichment Programme (1 to 10 months). Students who intend to pursue the above undergraduate programme directly, are advised to fulfil the above English requirements prior to commencing their studies at the University.
Note / Legend Discretion is given to the Head of School to decide on applicants whose academic results are borderline to the entry requirements.
