1. Why do students take the Foundation in Science or Arts programme at UCSI University?
The Foundation programmes provide a more focused progression route to a degree course in UCSI University. Both our Foundation in Science and Foundation in Arts programmes are FULLY ACCREDITED by the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA). We have also successfully placed our Foundation students – in both disciplines – in world-renowned universities and colleges across the globe.
2. What are the learning and teaching methodologies of the Foundation programmes?
The curricula of both foundation programmes are on par with internationally- recognised Year 12 syllabus. Through implementation of teaching methodologies such as lecture-based learning, among others, students are trained to be independent and self-initiated in the learning process. Subjects are taken on a semester basis and each subject assessment will be conducted at the end of each semester.

UCSI University also offers Peer-assisted Study Sessions (PASS) for students. The sessions target traditionally difficult academic subjects – namely those with high failure rates and withdrawals or subjects that students perceive as most difficult. PASS provides peer-facilitated sessions to all students of these subjects. Organised into regular schedules, the face-to-face sessions are arranged outside of classes and are attended by students on a voluntary basis.
3. How long is each semester for the Foundation programmes?
Each semester runs for 14 weeks and there are no short semesters for the Foundation programmes. Both Foundation courses necessitate students to complete 11 compulsory subjects in total – excluding MoHE subjects for local students – for a minimum duration of 3 semesters (1 year).
4. Can I switch between pathways during my Foundation Studies?
Yes. However, you are required to first complete all outstanding compulsory subjects to ensure that eligibility requirements for the new pathway are met.
5. What activities are available for Foundation students?
The Centre for Pre-University Studies at UCSI University has set up a Foundation Students’ Society (FSS) which – together with SALSA – organises activities for all its Pre-U students. Apart from FSS, students are encouraged to be active participants in UCSI University’s other clubs and societies and be a part of this globally-minded student community.
