Dr. Muhammad Ali is currently associated with UCSI University Kuala Lumpur in Graduate Business School. Before coming to UCSI University, he worked with Ziauddin University as an Associate Professor of Finance, the Institute of Business Management (IoBM), as an Assistant Professor of Finance in the Department of Accounting & Finance. He also worked with Iqra University as an Assistant professor in the department of Business Administration. Dr. Ali also worked for the banking sector, including MCB bank Ltd. and BankIslamic Pakistan Ltd.

Dr Ali earned his Master in Business Administration (MBA) degree from IQRA University (IU) Pakistan in finance and completed his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in finance from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). His MBA thesis was on the performance of Mudarbah deposits, while his doctoral thesis investigated the banking sector stability and performance. Dr. Ali received his Bachelor in Science (BSc.) degree from the University of Karachi (UoK), Pakistan.

Dr Ali also possesses leadership skills reflected in his various administrative roles with leading universities. His first appointment with Iqra University was the Head of Research and later, he was promoted to Deputy Director of Academics. In his role with Iqra University, Dr Ali kept the title of Head of Business Administration Department. Additionally, he extended his services to various academic committees such as the Board of Studies, Board of Faculty, Curriculum Review, Board of Advance Studies and Research and Academic Council. When he joined Ziauddin University, he was appointed as Chairperson of the Department of Management Technology and Information Sciences (MTIS). At present, Dr Ali has been assigned a role as Head of Praxis, Industry and Community Engagement (PICE) at UCSI Graduate Business School. Dr Ali is actively working with industry players to bridge the gap between industry and academia. He aims to create an impact in business and society through research.

Dr Muhammad Ali's teaching interests include financial management, behavioral finance, business finance, business mathematics, business statistic, quantitative analysis, Islamic banking and writing research projects. Dr. Ali has supervised many undergraduate and graduate-level students. His primary research interest is in finance, including corporate finance, financial inclusion, financial literacy, Fintech, behavioral finance, and Islamic banking adoption. He has a good command in using various statistical tools such as E-views, STATA, Smart PLS and SPSS. In addition, Dr. Ali has been instrumental in his classroom teaching. His coaching to the students within and outside the class has helped them to resolve their academic challenges. Overall, Dr. Ali receives excellent teaching evaluations from the students.

Dr. Ali has been appointed Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) on research grants. He has been appointed as Principal Investigator by the Levene Business School, University of Regina, Canada, on the project "The Impact of Islamic Work Ethic on Employee Behaviour in the Banking Sector." He is the Principal Investigator (PI) of another ongoing research project under the Research Excellence & Innovation Grant (REIG) entitled "Construction of Credit Constraints and Access to Credit Indicators to Improve Crop Production of Malaysian Farmers." He is also a Co-Principal Investigator of the REIG research grant project on "Decision Making in Implementing Blockchain Technology for Improvement of the Educational Process: A Causal Modelling Using DEMATEL Technique." Dr Ali holds the title of “Research Fellow” by the University of Malaya. In past, Dr. Ali also provided consultancy to IU International University of Applied Sciences (Germany) for their International Financial Management course project.

Based on his research area and interest, Dr. Muhammad Ali has published several research papers in top peer-review journals which include, Total Quality Management & Business Excellence (Taylor & Francis, SSCI), Housing Studies (Taylor & Francis, SSCI), International Journal of Emerging Markets (Emerald, SSCI), Environmental Science and Pollution Research (Springer, SSCI), Journal of Financial Services Marketing (Palgrave, ESCI, Scopus), Global Business Review (Sage, ESCI, Scopus), Management Research Review (Emerald, ESCI and Scopus), International Journal of Manpower (Emerald, SSCI, ABDC-A), British Food Journal (Emerald, SSCI), Sage Open (Sage, SSCI), Journal of Financial Crime (Emerald, ESCI, Scopus) and many more. Dr. Ali also contributed his research work in book chapters published by Springer.

In addition to Dr. Ali's research contributions, he has been appointed as a Guest Editor by the quality journals. He is a guest editor of Energy Efficiency Journal (SSCI) published by Springer on a theme of A Sustainable Financial Inclusion for Transition to Low Carbon Energy Sources: Global Perspective. He is also a Guest Editor of the International Journal of Social Economics (ABDC, Scopus and ESCI), published by Emerald on the theme of Financial Inclusion and Social Development for a Sustainable Economic System. Dr. Ali is a Member Advisory Board for Labuan E-Journal of Muamalat and Society (LJMS) published by University Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Journal of Economics and Business Issues published by University of Gaziantep (Turkey) and VILAKSHAN - XIMB Journal of Management published by Emerald and Member Scientific Committee and Advisory Board Connecting Asia. He is Associate Editor of the Journal of Finance and Economics Research (JFER) and Member Advisory Board South Asian Journal of Management Sciences (SAJMS), managed by Iqra University (Pakistan). He also holds the membership of Malaysia Finance Associate (MFA). In the past, Dr. Ali held the position as an Editor for the Pakistan Business Review (PBR) published by the Institute of Business Management (IoBM) Pakistan.

Dr Ali has presented his research work at several international and national research conferences which include International conference on management, education & social sciences research (April 04- 05, 2015), National symposium on business, management and education (November, 21, 2015), First international symposium of research in education and management science (February, 05, 2015), Paf-kiet 1st international research conference on business management (NRCBM-16), International conference on innovation and emerging trends in business management (ICIETBM, 20-21 May, 2017), International conference on innovation and emerging trends in business management (ICIETBM, 8-9 Jan, 2018), 2nd International Scholars Conference Universiti Utara Malaysia (ISCUUM), 28 - 30 September 2020 and 4th International Islamic on Islamic Banking and Finance, 4th – 5th November, 2020.

Dr Muhammad Ali has been privileged to give his talk at several international conferences. He has been invited by different Universities as a Keynote speaker such as, Keynote speaker at 3rd International Conference ISCUUM by Universiti Utara Malaysia 29-31 March 2021, Keynote speaker at 3rd International Conference ON Islamic Finance and Accounting by Hasan Kolyunco University Gaziantep, Turkey 26-28 May 2022. He was invited as a speaker on effective teachers training, organized by AFAQ quality education service provider, 20th October, 2018 and invited as a Panelist in the International Conference organized by Greenwich University, Karachi 22-24 Jan 2020.

Dr Ali has been instrumental in classroom teaching. His teaching methodology within the class creates a healthy learning environment for his students. He is well-versed with up-to-date technology in classroom teaching for online, hybrid and face-to-face learning. Based on his services to the students in the classroom, Dr Ali has been recognized by UCSI Graduate Business School and received the the Certificate of Achievement (achieved Academic Evaluation of above 3.50 out of 4.00) in 2022.
