Prior to that, she graduated from UCSI University with a Bachelor of Music in Contemporary Music with First Class Honors. She was a recipient of the Dean’s List award and the UCSI Scholarship Award throughout her studies. She was active in managing and performing in the university’s music events and gained work experience with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra under the UCSI University Internship Program.
At University of Tasmania, she received partial scholarship from the Tasmania International Scholarship program and obtained a Graduate Diploma in Music Studies, taking principal studies with Dr. Andrew Legg. Upon graduation, she continued her teaching career at UCSI University as an adjunct lecturer teaching contemporary piano performance and courses in the Foundation in Music program before becoming a full-time staff in 2011. Since then, she has assisted in the continuous development of the music programs at UCSI University.
As an educator, she progressively expands her knowledge and interests in the fields of first-year music courses such as theory and musicianship. Her students are her passion as they continue to challenge and motivate her to further improve and evolve in her teaching career. Recently finding new interest in research, she has discovered new piqued interest in the field of popular music studies, specifically the social impact that South Korean group BTS has made (and still making) through their music. She continues this interest with passion into the new decade of the 21st century; with future plans to look into popular music within her homeland.
Nur Lina is also an Associate diploma holder in piano performance from Trinity College London and had 17 years of education under the YAMAHA Music Program, guided by Lillian Joseph. Apart from piano, she achieved a Grade 8 with distinction in violin under the tutelage of Lee Yin Hwa, and has performance experience in the gamelan. She extends her skills as a music copyist, engraver and transcriber. During her spare time, she tries to read and write as much as she can to stay relevant in her field of study, while trying to keep up with the high demands of academia.
