UCSI CELEBRATES WORLD TELEVISION DAY

Kuala Lumpur, 17 November 2006 - The Social Science and Liberal Arts (SSLA) Association of UCSI is organizing an event in conjunction with World Television Day. The objective is to promote the recognition of television as a cultural instrument that focuses on issues such as peace, security, economic and social development. It will be held on the 21st November, 2006, from 10:00A.M to 4:00P.M.In order to spice up the event, the association has come up with activities. There will be an activity held by the 8TV street team, where they will be giving away freebies and prizes of contests held. Later that day, there will be a screening of the movie ‘Sepet’.

The main highlight of the day is the Q&A session with two guest speakers, who are both directors in the film industry in Malaysia. Mr. Brando Lee, a director who produces telemovies, and has also been working around with local artistes such as Janet Khoo. Ms. Tan Chui Mui, an independent director that has directed many short films, and some of her films have garnered awards. Two such films were “A Tree in Tanjung Malim” (2004), which won the Principal Prize in the 51st Oberhausen International Short Film Festival, and “Love Conquers All”, which recently swept two awards at the Pusan International Film Festival held last month. Besides that, there will be a screening of Ms. Tan Chui Mui’s “A Tree in Tanjung Malim”.

In addition to promoting the recognition of television, the association also wanted to keep the students active and be involved in activities and projects, especially students who are having their semester break now. Self-discipline, self-esteem, teamwork and professionalism are inculcated in the minds and hearts of these students during the organizing and regular committee work.
