UCSI HAS GIVEN OUT MORE THAN RM2.3M IN SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS


KUALA LUMPUR, 13 September 2006 – Continuing a tradition of celebrating excellence in academic, University College Sedaya International (UCSI) has given out scholarships and awards worth approximately RM2.37 million at its Awards Day ceremony held this morning.

Awards Day is celebrated in UCSI to reward the results achieved by UCSI students who excel in both academic and non-academic disciplines. There are three categories of academic awards : the President’s Award, the Overall Achievement Awa, the Dean’s List Award, as well as other awards that were presented to students from various fields.This year’s President’s Award recipients include Ng Ying Han, Kok Yik Lim, Carolyn Lo May Yeeng, Ang Chun Kit and Chan Sia Hui. They are recognized for their academic excellence, leadership and strong extra-curricular involvement.Guest-of-Honour, Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Abdul Rahman Arshad, Chancellor of UCSI, said by hosting the Awards Day every year, UCSI clearly shows that it is committed to rewarding high achievers. 
"By being one of the recipients of this year’s awards, the students have proven themselves and to everyone around them that they can indeed attain the results that they have challenged themselves to achieve," he added.
UCSI has also created a special award; the Inspirational Achievement Award, which was presented to Ng Chin Harn, a physically-challenged student from the School of Social Science and Liberal Arts, currently pursuing a degree in psychology. This award is created to give recognition to disabled students who have gone through great hardship to overcome difficulties arising from their disabilities, while at the same time encouraging them to realise the importance of education, and developing their capabilities and potential in serving the local community.A total of 293 students from various faculties throughout the university were rewarded in a total of 14 award categories at the ceremony. 
Established since 1986, UCSI is amongst the few Malaysian private university colleges to offer a wide spectrum of academic studies ranging from Engineering to Information Technology and Business, Applied Sciences to Pharmacy and Medicine, Social Science to Music.Today, UCSI student’s learning experience is further enhanced by the cutting edge of technology, and the support of well-qualified and friendly teaching teams.
