KUALA LUMPUR, 27 December 2006 - Several engineering gadgets are sure to entice the public to UCSI’s next Engineering exhibition on January 8.
Final year Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Jacob Tan Yoke Lip (see picture) said his project, known as Motion Sensor Controller (MOSEC) is a module by itself that can be used for flight simulation or car racing games.
“The advantage of this module is that it can be interchangeable with any type of controllers, such as the Play Station joysticks and game steering wheels,” he said.
It took him about half-a-year to complete the project at a very low cost, and Tan said he hopes to develop the prototype and commercialize it.
The secret of his success is the support that he received from his family. “My family has been very supportive,” he said. “They provided the financial support and encouragement to build the prototype.”
Another gadget, a Multiple Access Control System known as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), will also be displayed beside many others.
Invented by final year engineering student, Jeyaraj Savarinayagam, the device uses radio frequency to transmit data from a transponder or a name tag to an RFID reader, instead of the usual laser reader, magnetic stripe car or bar code.
