FIATA World Congress 2017


Kuala Lumpur: UCSI University’s (UCSI) logistics and supply chain students were recently invited to join the second day of the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) World Congress 2017 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The international congress was organised for the professionals in this field to share insights and challenges encountered in the industry.

Indeed, it was a privilege that UCSI was among the few chosen universities invited and sponsored to attend such the congress. Speakers who were made up industry leaders such as President of FIATA, Zhao Huxiang and the current Minister of Transport, YB Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai, shared their experiences and insights on the industry including its progress since decades ago.

YB Dato’ Sri Liong Tiong Lai’s speech titled ‘Bridging The Gap to Future Markets – Measures and Resources’ looked at plans of increasing the nation’s economy and GDP using resources from the logistics industry. Another interesting presentation by President of Sinotrans, Li Guan Peng focused on MMC Corporation’s strategic initiatives to improve port connectivity.

The congress also allowed for participants to present questions regarding the industry and its future to the panel of speakers. Indeed, it was an invaluable experience for the logistics students as they acquired an in-depth and current understanding of the industry.
