UCSI University’s Institute of Languages primarily offers English Language Courses designed to equip university-bound students with the language skills necessary for academic programmes. Additionally, it provides intensive English language programmes to international students and learners who seek to improve their language proficiency while travelling in Malaysia. Our learners originate from various parts of the world. Increasingly, the Institute is approached to assist in upskilling in-service teachers and company workers. There are plans to develop more language courses, such as Mandarin, Malay, Japanese and Korean, to cater to students’ learning needs soon.
Responsibilities
- To perform a maximum 24 teaching hours per week;
- To do administrative matters pertaining to classes;
- To administer the English Placement Test;
- To contribute in research and development projects, materials and curriculum/syllabi development for teaching purposes where necessary;
- To counsel students academically;
- To support the Centre on business development and marketing activities during the University’s Open Days
- To be responsible for all projects/assignments given. The projects/assignments would require you to teach, prepare lessons, and prepare reports for your superior and other responsibilities as a teacher;
- To set challenging teaching and learning objectives that are relevant to all students in their classes, and use these teaching and learning objectives to plan lessons, and sequences of lessons, showing how they will assess students' learning;
- To select and prepare resources, and plan for effective organization, taking account of students' interests and their language and cultural backgrounds;
- To invigilate and mark examinations;
- To be willing to travel to teach in venue outside the main campus as and when required.
Requirements
- PhD in TESOL, TESL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field is required.
- Minimum 2-3 years of working experience.
- A strong research and publication record is highly desirable.
- Minimum Scopus/WoS H-Index: 2.
- Excellent communication skills;
- Pro-active and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently as well as within the team;
- Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, possess a mature attitude and a good team player;
- Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills and abilities;
- Enjoy cultural diversity;
- PC savvy and willing to use innovative teaching ideas and teaching mode on the University’s LMS.
