8 MayUCSI University launches its first Sino-foreign institute
Zhengzhou, China: UCSI University, in collaboration with Zhengzhou University of Technology, has officially established the UCSI Institute of Engineering.
Held at Zhengzhou University, the launching ceremony marks UCSI’s first Sino-foreign institute and represents a significant milestone in the university’s global expansion journey.
The Institute will offer three undergraduate programmes: Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Intelligent Control and Data Science.
This collaboration brings together the strengths and resources of both institutions to address the growing demands of the engineering industries in Malaysia and China.
Under a 4+0 study model, students will complete their entire programme at Zhengzhou University of Technology and graduate with qualifications recognised by both institutions.
“UCSI believes that education serves as a bridge between nations”, said UCSI Group founder and executive chairman Dato’ Peter Ng at the launch.
“In an increasingly interconnected world, collaboration between institutions is essential to nurture talent that is globally competent and future-ready.
“This partnership with Zhengzhou University of Technology reflects our shared commitment to developing graduates who can contribute meaningfully to society and industry.”
He added that amid rapid technological advancement and mounting global challenges, engineering education must produce graduates with strong technical expertise, adaptability, responsibility and foresight.
He also expressed confidence that graduates of the faculty will become a driving force for industrial innovation and social progress in both countries.
In his address, Yang Guang, said the establishment of the UCSI Faculty of Engineering represents a strong example of how international collaboration can enhance the quality and effectiveness of higher education in Henan.
He added that the partnership also marks an important milestone for local applied undergraduate institutions in integrating international resources and elevating educational standards.
Meanwhile, Zhao Jian noted that UCSI University is ranked 269th globally in the 2026 QS World University Rankings, with its engineering programmes holding dual international accreditation under the Washington Accord and the Board of Engineers Malaysia.
He described the partnership as a “chemical reaction” of complementary strengths.
Over the past four years, UCSI University has consistently remained among the top 1% of universities worldwide, ranking 269th globally in the 2026 QS World University Rankings. It also entered the top 30 in Asia and is ranked eighth in Southeast Asia.
Among those present were Deputy Director-General of the Department of Education of Henan Province Yang Guang; Deputy Director General of Foreign Affairs Office of the CPC Henan Provincial Committee Liu Bao; UCSI Group Founder and Executive Chairman Dato’ Peter Ng; UCSI University Board Member Datin Lily Ng ; Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Technology and Built Environment at UCSI University Professor Dr Lim Wei Hong; Secretary of the Party Committee, Zhengzhou University of Technology Zhao Jian and President of Zhengzhou University of Technology Bai Zhonghu, together with other university leaders from both institutions.
