Prof Ooi among world’s most cited researchers

KUALA LUMPUR: Distinguished Professor Dr Ooi Keng Boon has been named in Clarivate’s prestigious 2023 Highly Cited Researcher List™ that acknowledges the top 0.1% of the world’s most cited scientists.

Prof Ooi, the dean of UCSI University’s Graduate Business School, made the list for the first time, joining an exclusive group of researchers who have earned this distinction.

Only 11 researchers from Malaysian universities and research institutes made the Highly Cited Researcher™ list in 2023. A total of 6,849 thought leaders were acknowledged worldwide.

The significance of his latest feat was not lost on Prof Ooi who said that he was honoured to be recognised by the global scientific community.

“I’m pleased to make the list for the first time,” he said. “This milestone captures the significance of my work over the years and I’m glad that my efforts are paying off and benefiting others.

“Consequential research is very demanding and time-consuming. I could not have done this alone and I would like to thank my family, UCSI, and my co-authors for their support.”

An avid researcher, Prof Ooi has a Google H-index of 85, a Scopus H-index of 69, and a Web of Science H-index of 59.

He steers the research direction at UCSI’s Graduate Business School and his passion for research has influenced his colleagues - three of whom joined Prof Ooi in the recently-published World’s Top 2% of Scientists list by Stanford.

According to Clarivate, Highly Cited Researchers are 1 in 1,000, denoted by the top 0.1% classification.

To qualify, each researcher must author multiple highly cited papers that rank in the top 1% by citations in their fields over the past decade. The list is filtered further using qualitative analysis and expert opinion.
