UCSI Holds Successful 2nd Korean Night Dinner

KUCHING: UCSI University’s students from its Hotel Management, Culinary Arts and Leisure Management programmes have successfully organised the 2nd Korean Night 2014 at The Quad Restaurant, UCSI University Sarawak Campus.

The main objective of the event is to promote Korean cuisine, culture and music among the locals. The event concluded with entertaining performances including a K-pop dance, Korean traditional dance, singing performance, and a mini Korean Drama.

As part of the event awareness and publicity, a Korean Showcase was held on the 22nd -23rd November 2014 at Boulevard Shopping Mall Kuching featuring activities such as traditional dance, henna art, a language booth, food and mocktail tasting, lucky draws, games, and the event highlight, the first ever UCSI Korean flash mob.

“As a K-pop fan, I am glad that UCSI had organized the Korean Showcase and Korean Night. We learnt a lot from the planning, organising, coordinating, and controlling process. This experience has enhanced our skills to be future leaders,” said Chong Jia Xin, a diploma student in Hotel Management.

The event also serves as a platform for the students to apply their classroom knowledge to real life situations through the organising of this event, which is in tandem with UCSI’s praxis® approach.

“Students were exposed to the critical skills and challenges in managing banquet events which prepares them to face the working world. I am glad that the students showed great effort and teamwork,” according to the Project Director cum lecturer, Mr Ting Hui Bun.

Among the sponsors of the event are HD Image Enterprise, Chan Dusun & Co. Advocates, Chan Khoon Hua, Hock Kui Development, Poh Lo Chew Development, Hilton Hotel, 360 Xpress Hotel, Plaza Merdeka, Cloud 99, F&N, and many other individual sponsors.

UCSI University is appointed as one of the first leading private universities in South East Asia by Korea Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation to promote Korean culture, food and music in Malaysia through their education programmes.
