UCSI-MCMC Enter Into 5G Collaboration


KUALA LUMPUR, 22 March 2022: UCSI University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to establish a strategic collaboration on Fifth Generation (5G) technology research and application.

The signing of this MoU will provide many collaboration opportunities for both parties, including in the development of micro-credential courses in areas such as Digital Forensics, Bioinformatics, Big Data Analytics, and Cyber Security.

Under the MoU Agreement, MCMC will utilise UCSI Poll Centre and Tan Sri Omar Abdul Rahman Centre for Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy Studies to conduct surveys and research activities. MCMC will also leverage UCSI Expert Resources in the areas of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) as well as other forms of academic collaboration.

UCSI University will gain access to experienced industry professionals with the appointment of MCMC Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) as Industry Advisory Panel (IAP) as members under the UCSI University Academic Programme Board of Studies (BOS). MCMC SMEs could share their experience and knowledge with students as Adjunct Lecturers and Professors under the appointment.

“Educators need to see innovation as a must in the teaching and learning processes because innovation can not only save time but also increase student interest in learning. Innovation requires educators and students to be knowledgeable, skilled, analytical, and willing to work on something new.

“These traits are indispensable in today's educational world to produce students who are ready to confront the challenges of IR 4.0, 5G, and subsequent revolutions to come our way. Therefore, the UCSI University’s micro-credential courses will aid in future-proofing graduates while re-skilling and upskilling the Malaysian workforce to thrive in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0),” said Professor Datuk Ir Ts Dr Siti Hamisah Tapsir, UCSI University Vice-Chancellor, and UCSI Group CEO.

This MoU will also highlight collaborative efforts between both parties to support the country’s aspirations to be a technologically advanced nation.

Meanwhile, MCMC said: “this collaboration with UCSI and others in academia will pave the way in readying our digital talents for digital leadership in technology and innovation. The

Commission will work closely with the industry and the academia in ensuring the entire workforce is digital-ready.”

Dr Siti Hamisah signed on behalf of UCSI Education Sdn Bhd, while Dato' Dr Fadhlullah Suhaimi Abdul Malek, the Executive Chairman represented MCMC. The Signing Ceremony was witnessed by UCSI University’s representative, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Internationalisation (Kuala Lumpur Campus), Professor Datuk Dr Rohana Yusof, FASc, and MCMC’s Chief Financial and Strategy Officer, Nor Fadhilah Mohd Ali.

The collaboration will enable both UCSI University and MCMC to conduct joint seminars, conferences, and workshops in the area of ICT.

Students will gain internship opportunities via the UCSI University Internship Co-Op Programme with MCMC for co-operative placement. This will enable students to gain valuable work experience and exposure under the programme.

This MoU further reflects UCSI University’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 9 to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialisation, and foster innovation.
