KUCHING, 5 March 2024 – The Faculty of Business and Management at UCSI University Sarawak Campus signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Great Eastern Life Malaysia (GELM), its esteemed industry partner. The MoU, which was held at Bangunan Great Eastern, marks their commitment to collaboration and knowledge exchange.

The signing between UCSI and the industry signifies a significant step towards fostering stronger ties. It outlines cooperation in the areas of talent development, enhancement, and research. This partnership facilitates student industrial training and exposure to the real world, allowing them to gain practical insights and hands-on experience, thus bridging the gap between academia and industry. Additionally, it enables GELM to acknowledge and empower deserving students by granting them scholarships.

Mr Lau Kok Hin, Head of National Agency Sales at GELM, remarked that today’s younger generation is fuelled by ambition and a desire to chart their own course. Beyond technical expertise, it is the mastery of soft skills such as communication and negotiation that truly sets them apart. Mdm Mukvinder Sandhu, Pro Vice-Chancellor of UCSI University Sarawak Campus, emphasised that soft skills remain timeless, and young professionals must cultivate these intangible qualities alongside their pursuit of tertiary education. She also highlighted that the landscape of education has transformed significantly. The university is currently exploring curriculum re-imagination, aiming for students to spend more time in the industry and less time on campus, with crucial involvement and support from industry partners.

The ceremony concluded with a student tour at Bangunan Great Eastern, where students were introduced to customer service practices and various life assurance processes.

UCSI University Sarawak Campus currently houses the Faculty of Business and Management, the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management, and the Centre for Pre-U Studies.
