UCSI University inks MOU with Huizhou Technician Institute


KUALA LUMPUR: UCSI University recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Huizhou Technician Institute in China, paving the way for their students to pursue their degree studies at UCSI's Faculty of Social Sciences and Liberal Arts as well as De Institute of Creative Arts and Design. 

“We have established four specialised courses that will be spearheading our partnership,” said Huang Lin, Vice-President of Huizhou Technician Institute, who signed the agreement with Willie Tan Moh Leong, UCSI's Vice-President of Student Enrolment Centre, on behalf of their institutions. 

“We are looking forward to achieving all that we are setting out to do, and we hope that this will herald a good start with more to come.”

Students at Huizhou Technician Institute who have received their Diploma in the relevant fields will be able to transfer directly into year two of these bachelor degree programmes offered at UCSI’s Kuala Lumpur campus: English Language and Communication, Fashion Design with Marketing, Graphic Design, and 3D Animation Design. 

This partnership is a result of intensive discussions and arrangements carried out for over a year. The Huizhou People’s Government has also extended their support towards this collaboration, with government officers – including Yang Rong, Deputy Secretary-General of Hui Zhou People’s Government – arriving with the delegation from China to witness the signing ceremony. 

“I believe that this MOU will lead to many new initiatives that will add academic value for both parties in the years to come,” said Senior Professor Dato’ Dr Khalid Yusoff, UCSI’s Vice-Chancellor and President. “We look forward to educating the leaders of tomorrow with Huizhou Technician Institute, even as we grow closer as nations.” 

Also in attendance were Chinese government officers Luo Ziping, Deputy Director of Huizhou Human Resources and Social Security; and Wu Xiumin, Chief Officer of Human Resources and Social Security Bureau. From Huizhou Technician Institute were Wen Hanquan, Director of Vocational Training and Continuing Education Centre; Zhong Xinru, Director of the Basic Education Department; and Su Nianjun, Director of the Guangzhou Yangjiang Foreign Student Association. 

UCSI was also represented by Professor Dato’ Dr Ahmad Haji Zainuddin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Academic Affairs and International; Abu Bakar Bin Jalaluddin, Vice-President of the Group Legal Office; Leong Sat Sing, Vice-President of Group Corporate Affairs; Associate Professor Dr Choo Wou Onn, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Business and Information Science; Margaret Soo Boon Yoke, Director of the Centre of English Language; Assistant Professor Dr Jayanthi Sothinathan, Acting Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Liberal Arts; Assistant Professor Dennis Wong Chee De, Head of Digital Design at De Institute of Creative Arts and Design; Assistant Professor Nur Mashita Bt Kamalun Ariffin, Head of the Art and Design department at De Institute of Creative Arts and Design; Associate Professor Dr Shalini Teresa Fernandez from the Department of English Language and Communication; as well as Sean Calvin Yong Shin Ching, Head of International Marketing.
