UCSI UNIVERSITY LAUNCHES 25TH ANNIVERSARY, SILVER JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS

CELEBRATIONS TO TAKE PLACE DURING THE NEXT 18 MONTHS

Kuala Lumpur, 13 January 2011 - UCSI University has officially launched its 25th anniversary, silver jubilee celebrations! The University hosted a ceremony to a crowd of more than 200 guests to mark the occasion, which will be celebrated throughout the next 18 months. 

The event featured presentations by UCSI University Vice Chancellor Dr Robert Bong and UCSI Group Chairman and UCSI University Founder Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Peter Ng, as well as a video montage illustrating the history of the University and a performance by students from the School of Music. Also present at the event were several prominent UCSI University leaders including UCSI University Chancellor, Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Abdul Rahman Arshad, UCSI University Council Chairman Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Dato' Seri Dr Musa Mohamad and UCSI University Foundation Chairman Yang Berbahagia Dato' Dr Haji Karim Bin Haji Abdullah Omar. 

In his speech, Dr Bong shared the history of UCSI University, beginning with its inception in 1986 as the Canada Institute of Computer Science to becoming a full-fledged university in 2008. 

"During the past 25 years, UCSI University has undergone many transformations. It has changed its name and changed its location but has always maintained its foundation on the principles of audacity, excellence, integrity and perseverance,” he said. “With this groundwork we have worked to instil a new generation with these principles by creating an atmosphere full of positive and enlightening experiences.” 

Dr Bong then listed some of the main events that will take place throughout the celebrations and invited the public to join in the festivities. The events include the first ever Alumni Network Homecoming Dinner to take place Saturday, 15 January, a public carnival and concert in May, an international jazz festival in November, and a 2000-guest gala dinner to mark the end of the celebrations on 13 May, 2012 at the new UCSI International Resort and Convention Centre in Bandar Springhill, Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan that is slated to be completed early next year. Dr Bong also said there would be additional events throughout the next year and a half including public lectures, exhibitions and performances. 

Marking the second main event of the morning, Dato’ Peter gave a presentation detailing the forthcoming expansion plans of UCSI Group, the umbrella organisation of UCSI University. The plans include the development of three five-star hotels in Cheras, Kuching and Bandar Springhill, as well as a medical centre and international school, also in Bandar Springhill. These plans will occur throughout the next five years amounting to a total investment of RM1.13 billion.
