30 OctUCSI University organises “Who is the Killer?” Halloween Night at Grand Margherita Hotel, Kuching
KUCHING: UCSI University (UCSI) recently hosted a Halloween Night party at Grand Margherita Hotel’s Macam2 Bistro in collaboration with the hotel as its main sponsor.
Organised by UCSI’s Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM) Kuching Campus, the event saw 123 guests participated in the mystery game where they act as detectives to solve a murder case as part of the fun activities featured at the event.
Other fun activities include a dance performance, mini drama, flash mob, fashion show and a series of lucky draws.
More than just a delightful get together occasion, the event aptly named “Who is the Killer?” was planned and executed instrumentally by the students under the guidance of their lecturers with the aim to gain hard skills and practical experience of event planning and management. Apart from that, it also provided a unique platform for the students of culinary arts to demonstrate their cooking skills and other creativities.
According to Linda Jong, the Project Manager of the event, “Who is the Killer?” provided them the opportunity to practice their service skills and experience the different types of services in the hospitality industry.
“Organising “Who is the Killer?” was such a meaningful experience for us. Thanks to the hotel management for their guidance, we had the opportunity to learn the complexity of planning and carrying out an event which would be beneficial for us in the future,” said Linda who is currently reading the Diploma in Hotel Management programme.
She also added that without a good teamwork, the event would not have been a success.
Commenting further, Ting Hui Bun, one of the lecturers who guided the students who is also the Project Director of the event said that through the event, students also gained many benefits that will give them the edge when it comes to preparing them for employment.
“I’m very grateful for the supports given by the hotel management, especially Mr Patrick Lau, the General Manager and Alphonsus Lim, the Food and Beverage Manager of the hotel for their guidance in ensuring the success of this event. The students had the chance to grasp the necessary tips and skills from the professionals and that is what we want them to carry with them in the working world,” he said.
Other than Grand Margherita Hotel, the event was also sponsored by esteemed companies including Supreme Food Supply (M) Sdn Bhd, Plaza Merdeka, Imperial Hotel, HD Image Enterprise, Lot 10 Boutique Hotel, Khin Kueh Khiong (KKK), Gudan Jaya (Chin Yie Hing), TLS Marketing Sdn Bhd (Teck Lee Seng), Lost in Kuching, Kian Fung Company, KH Vision Computer Centre, H.M Trading Company Sdn Bhd, Kuching Kawai Music School, CSS Sdn Bhd and Sweet Memory.
