Apple IT Workshop Sharing with High school students around the Klang Valley


Kuala Lumpur, 4 March, 2012  - The School of Information Technology, under the Faculty of Business and Information Science at UCSI University together with Tristar Digital recently co-organised an Apple IT Sharing Workshop at the University's Kuala Lumpur campus. More than 100 students from secondary schools all over the Klang Valley had participated in the workshop with some of them walking away with Apple products worth RM 2000.00 after winning the competitions

According to the Head of the School of Information Technology, Ms Chloe Thong Chee Ling, "The purpose of this event is to share with the young generation, the latest technology in the IT industry. Everyone admires Apple products and we hope by organising this event, more users will be aware of the technology invented by them for academic use."

Today's students have grown up completely immersed in technology therefore amomgst other initiatives, UCSI University has also worked with one of its industrial partners, RICOH, to set up an Information Technology research lab which is fully sponsored by them. The lab is equipped with the latest technology from the Apple Store with the mission to assist students and lecturers in the aspect of research studies. Besides that, students could also gain knowledge on mobile computing, smart phone applications and high resolution software, through this initiative, to be implemented in classrooms and lecture halls.

Subsequently, the Tristar Digital Marketing and Business Development Manager, Mr Kelvin Seaw said, "Our idea to build the Apple Campus Experience Centre is to be accessible to students, faculty and staff members of the higher education institution to enable them to obtain and use our products for academic purposes."

The Apple Store also offers special discounts to the University's students and staff, at their convenience, with latest updates on the products offered within the campus itself.

During the workshop, representatives from Tristar Digital explained and demonstrated the products as well as its applications to the students and academicians. They also showed them how to produce short video clips and perform photo editing using the latest application.

Tristar Digital sponsored the prizes to the winners for the IPad games that were held. The winner, Rubaanathan from SMK Seri Saujana who won the IPad 2 said, "I feel so excited to join the workshop as I had gained a lot of knowledge during this event. I'm really impressed with the technology offered by Apple products and I'm grateful that UCSI University had organised this event for us.

"This workshop has indeed peeked my interest to continue my studies in the field of Information Technology and UCSI University will definitely be my first choice when I apply to pursue my degree in this subject, after the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination," he added.
