Biography

Christine Tan Yunn Bing is a native of Melaka.  She received her Bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University in Piano Pedagogy, her Masters in Piano Pedagogy, and her Doctor of Musical Art degree in Piano Performance from West Virginia University, under the tutelage of Dr. Christine Kefferstan.  While in the USA, Christine has been awarded the Music Teacher National Association Student Achievement Recognition Award, USA.

As a performer, she has actively performed in Community Music Program concerts, WVU Collegiate Chapter of MTNA concerts, and concerts given at the Heritage Point Retirement Community.  Christine has also been invited to perform two-piano recitals in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Taiwan.

Since returning to Malaysia, Christine has been actively teaching.  She is currently an Assistant Professor teaching at the Institute of Music, UCSI University, Malaysia.  Her students have won awards in several competitions both locally and outside the country. These include Roland Piano Festival, Indonesia Open Piano Competition, and the Malaysian Youth Orchestra Foundation (MYOF).  

Christine has also been invited to judge piano examinations and gave workshops in Indonesia; a lecture-recital at National Taichung University of Education, Taiwan. She was also appointed as adjudicator for several competitions such as the Asia Piano Competition, Kota Kinabalu Music Festival and MYOF.  Besides judging, she has also been appointed as an External Examiner to adjudicate final recital at the Faculty of Music of University Technology MARA and the National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage (known as ASWARA). At UCSI University, besides her passion for teaching, she was also the chairwoman of the UCSI Piano Pedagogy Conference in 2017; vice-chair of the UCSI University International Piano Festival and Competition (known as the IPFC) when it started in 2014 until present.
