Dr. Mehrbakhsh Nilashi is currently an Assistant Professor at UCSI Graduate Business School in Malaysia. Prior to his academic career, he joined UTM Alumni and UTM Career Centre as a data scientist and website developer.

Dr. Nilashi graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Software Engineering from the Islamic Azad University, Lahijan Branch in 2006. He received his Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from the Iran University of Science and Technology in 2010. He received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the Faculty of Computing, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in 2014. He was a postdoctoral fellow and visiting researcher at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia from 2014 until 2021.

Dr. Nilashi’s research interests are mainly in the fields of Artificial Intelligence and Business Analytics. As an active researcher, Dr. Nilashi has published more than 200 research works to date in artificial intelligence and information systems. His research shows a considerable impact, with high citations recorded based on GoogleScholar (Citations: 8885; H-Index: 54) and Scopus indices (Citations: 4700; H-Index: 42). Dr. Nilashi’s Field Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI) is 3.13 which indicates his publications have received 3.13 times more citations than the expected world average in the similar field.                                                                                                           

Dr. Nilashi has attained excellent research records in the field of artificial intelligence. Stanford University in the United States has ranked him as one of the world's top 2% of scientists in the world. This is awarded by Elsevier in recognition of his outstanding contributions in the Artificial Intelligence field. In addition, his research “A hybrid intelligent system for the prediction of Parkinson's Disease progression using machine learning techniques” in Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering was nominated for the ATLAS award.

In addition to excellence in research and publication, he is also a member of the editorial board of several scientific journals such as Applied Soft Computing (Elsevier; SCIE) and Electronic Commerce Research and Applications (Elsevier; SSCI). Dr. Nilashi’s developments of novel expert systems can boost the hotel industry. As an example, his project on “An Incremental Tourism (INCTOURISM) Software System based on Artificial Intelligent Approaches for Tourism Product Marketing in Malaysian Rural Areas” was funded for Prototype Development Research by The Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia to help Malaysia’s rural areas for tourism product marketing. Another of his project entitled “Multi-Criteria Collaborative Filtering System Based on Incremental Support Vector Regression and Dimensionality Reduction Techniques” has obtained funding from the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme by The Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia to improve the quality and precision of the online recommendation services. Further, his project entitled “A Framework for Decision-Making under Risk and Uncertainty for Supply Chain Performance in Electric Vehicle Manufacturing in Malaysia” is supported by Fundamental Research Grant Scheme by The Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia to develop a comprehensive framework for the evaluation of supply chain in electric vehicle manufacturing companies.
