Terrence Ling Hung Shu is an assistant professor of Music at UCSI University and an emerging leader in vocal arts, choral direction, and contemporary music education in Southeast Asia. As founder and artistic director of the Malaysian Voices Collective, he plays a significant role in shaping Malaysia’s vocal arts ecosystem by creating platforms that nurture young musicians, empower diverse communities and promote artistic collaboration. His flagship initiative, the Borneo International Vocal Arts Festival, has grown into one of East Malaysia’s most influential artistic events, bringing together singers, educators and performers from around the world through competition, performance and cultural exchange.
At UCSI University, Terrence serves as head of the Diploma in Music Performance Programme, where he leads initiatives in talent development, curriculum innovation and student engagement. He is regularly invited to serve as an adjudicator for vocal and choral competitions in Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Finland and has conducted workshops and masterclasses throughout Southeast Asia.
As a choral conductor, Terrence has led ensembles to international recognition across Asia and Europe, including the Absolute Winner title at the 10th International Choir Festival Grand Prix Pattaya (2017), the Special Conductor’s Prize in Croatia (2019) and the Artistic Achievement Award at the Malaysian Choral Eisteddfod (2022).
Beyond the choral field, he has collaborated with major ensembles including the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra and appeared at festivals such as the Singapore International Jazz Festival and Borneo Jazz Festival.
