A hotly contested match in the table tennis finals

Kuala Lumpur, 10 March 2009 - After more than a month long of games and activities, the UCSI University Intra and Inter-Faculty Sports Carnival 2009 came to a close with a prize-giving ceremony. Prizes were awarded to winners by the former Vice President of Student Affairs, Professor Dr. Lachman Tarachand. The Faculty of Management and Information Technology emerged as the overall champion of the event by winning the basketball, volleyball, futsal and the men’s table tennis events. The event kicked off with the volleyball event on the 14th of January, and ended with the futsal finals on the 28th of February.The Sports Carnival was co-organised by the various sports clubs of UCSI University. This included the Badminton Club, Table Tennis Club, Basketball Club, Volleyball Club, Futsal Club and the Dodge ball Club. Fully sponsored by the University’s Student Affairs Office, the main objectives of the event were to build unity through sports and strengthen relationships among students from different faculties. The event also helped build the spirit of sportsmanship among the students. Potential UCSI University student athletes for external sports tournaments were also identified through this event.More than 300 students participated in the Sports Carnival, all of them had to compete at the faculty level first before being selected as representatives of their own faculties. Professional licensed referees were hired to preside over all games held throughout the event.

UCSI University actively promotes sports as a way for students to build positive character and teamwork. In late 2007, the University hosted the UCSI Merdeka Sports Open officiated by the previous Deputy Minister of Sports, Yang Berhormat Dato’ Liow Tiong Lai. The University is well equipped with sports facilities for students to utilize. Recent additions include the refurbished swimming pool and 2 squash courts at the North Wing of its Kuala Lumpur campus.
