Malaysian pianist Su-yen Chee has established herself both as a soloist and chamber musician. She has given solo and collaborative recitals in the United States, Hong Kong, Japan, China, Korea, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia.

Recent performances include an all-Debussy recital commemorating the centenary of the composer’s passing, and playing Beethoven’s Concerto No.1 with the Selangor Philharmonic Orchestra in their “Beethoven Complete Concertos” series. She has been participating in the KL Piano Gala concerts yearly since 2013. Su-yen is also in demand as an accompanist, and has worked extensively with both instrumentalists and vocalists. 

Besides performing, she dedicates her time to teaching. Her students have won prizes in local and regional competitions and she is also sought after as an adjudicator, most recently for the MIA Young Musician Competition, 2nd Hong Kong International Competition for Young Pianists- Malaysia round, 14th Hong Kong (Asia Pacific) Malaysia Preliminary Competition, UCSI University International Piano Festival and Competition (2014, 2016, 2018) and Virtual International Music Competition 2020.

Su-yen is a graduate of Indiana University (Bloomington) and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, where she completed her MMus and BMus (1st class honours) degrees respectively. Her major teachers include Karen Shaw, Michel Block and Gabriel Kwok. Throughout her studies she has also participated in masterclasses and benefited from lessons given by, amongst others Vladimir Feltsman, Fou Ts’ong, Regina Smendzianka, Constance Keene, Michel Dalberto, Christopher Elton, Martin Roscoe, Lee Kum Sing and Li Ming Qiang. 

Currently, Su-yen is an adjunct lecturer at UCSI University and maintains a private studio.
