Biography

Cliff Wong, a drummer born and raised in Penang Island, Malaysia. A freelance drummer who has been actively performing and teaching around the Kuala Lumpur region. Graduated from International College Of Music (ICOM) with First Class Honours, Bachelor degree in professional music in 2014. He has performed and recorded for numerous acts from the Indie (Independent) music scene such as Amirah Ali, Ariff AB, Lyie Meta and Crinkle Cut. He is also active in the local jazz scene, performing shows with Malaysian Jazz Legend Michael Veerapen, and performed for International jazz artists such as New York’s finest Gabrielle Stravelli, Deborah Davis, upcoming Indonesian jazz artist Amelia Ong, Singapore’s jazz artist Rani Singam as well as jazz artist Alemay Fernandez. He was also the house drummer for The Harith Iskander’s Kita Ok! Tour, touring in 6 different states in Johor, Melaka, Penang, Saarawak, Sabah and Labuan. He has performed at numerous Jazz Festivals such as the Publika Jazz Festival with The Doo Doo Rascals, Malaysian Piano Jazz Festival (MPJF) 2019, 2020 and 2021 with The Michael Veerapen Quartet and Naz Quartet. As well as Kuching Waterfront Jazz Festival (KWJF) 2019 with Sarawak’s very own Nisa Addina. Apart from session work, he hosts weekly jam sessions at Jao Tim KL and is currently in works with his latest project band, “Born Heroes” as well as a Drum Instructor at UCSI and Swee Lee Academy.
