Dr Goh Yen Lin

Biography

Yen-Lin is a pianist, composer, and educator. An avid performer of new music, she has premiered and performed numerous solo and chamber works across North America, Europe, Africa, and Malaysia. She was selected as a 2018 One Beat Fellow with the U.S. State Department and received the 2018 Anugerah Seni dan Kreatif from UPSI She was invited as one of two musicians for a residency at Brush Creek Arts Foundation in Wyoming, U.S.A. Among her other awards are the Phi Kappa Phi Love of Learning National Award, second prize at the Oklahoma Israel Exchange Young Artists Competition, and the Tunisian/American Embassy Piano Fellowship. A full scholarship recipient, Yen-Lin earned her MM in Piano Performance with high honors from Oklahoma City University, U.S.A., and subsequently received her DMA in Contemporary Music (Performance) from BGSU in Ohio on a full teaching assistantship. She also holds a BA in Piano Performance and Communication Arts from the UW-Madison. Her passion for teaching brought her to Tanzania 2013-15, working as a teaching fellow at Umoja Music School and a lecturer at Tumaini University Makumira. She then served as a senior lecturer at UPSI in Malaysia 2015-2020. She has taught students of all ages, levels, and various cultural backgrounds, including those with special needs, on three continents (Asia, America, and Africa). Her cross-continent career story was featured in the 2018 Journal of the International Alliance for Women in Music and in the China Press National newspaper.
