Biography

Jiayong Mei, a distinguished countertenor, commands the stage with his ethereal voice and profound musicality. He holds a Doctor of Music Arts (DMA) and a Master of Music (MM) in Vocal Performance, from the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music at the Catholic University of America.

Jiayong's talent was acknowledged with a second-place finish in the American Classical Singer International Vocal Competition in 2018. Jiayong's musical journey has been enriched by the mentorship of luminaries such as Professor Rick Christman, Sharon Christman, Patrick Carfizzi, Julia Minzter and etc.

At the forefront of his repertoire are the iconic title roles Cesare in Handel's opera Giulio Cesare and Serse in Serse, where his nuanced interpretations captivate audiences. Jiayong's artistry extends beyond the operatic stage, delving into the fields of French, German, Italian and Spanish art songs.

His performances have graced prestigious venues including Ward Recital Hall, Hartke Theater, St John’s Episcopal Church, National Shrine of Basilica, etc. He also has been invited to perform at various esteemed venues including the Bulgarian Embassy, Chinese Embassy. Jiayong's musical prowess has transcended borders, earning him an invitation to the esteemed Toronto’s Summer Art Song Festival in Canada. As an invited artist in the Washington International Young Artist Music Series, he continues to captivate audiences across the DMV area.
