Do you enjoy going hiking? Reading a fashion magazine? That ice-cream you recently had? Whether you appreciate it or not, you cannot deny the important role our earth’s natural habitats have in our daily lives.

Over 80% of our diet is plant-based. Out of this rice, maize and wheat provide 60% of our energy intake. The systematic destruction of the great outdoors, however, is gravely threatening our land and its ability to provide us with food.

2.6 billion people depend directly on farming or the rearing as the sole means of income. However, the sad truth is that 52% of the land used for agriculture is moderately or severely affected by soil degradation.

Due to drought and desertification each year 12 million hectares are lost, where 20 million tons of grain could have been grown. This translates into the loss of jobs and the eventual shrinking of an entire sector in the future.

Fortunately, Sustainable Development Goal 15 strives to combat desertification, restore degraded land and soil, including land affected by desertification, drought and floods, and strive to achieve a land degradation-neutral world by the year 2030.

Join the quest for richer, fruitful land by signing up for Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Salleh Mohd Nor’s discussion on Environment and Nature Conservation now!

Help preserve our natural wonder and keep our workforce alive!
