KUALA LUMPUR: Six of Malaysia’s leading private universities teamed up at UCSI University to form the PHEI Library Consortium.

The Consortium allows its members to speak as one voice to vendors and policymakers, avoids duplication and promotes the sharing of resources and best practices.

UCSI, HELP University, INCEIF University, Multimedia University, Universiti Tun Abdul Razak, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman and Wawasan University are the founding members of the Consortium.

Witnessing the memorandum of understanding signing ceremony at UCSI’s Kuala Lumpur campus, Higher Education director-general Prof Dr Azlinda Azman said that the formation of the consortium was timely.

“The consortium strategically positions itself to address new challenges, ensuring that our educational institutions are equipped to adapt, innovate, and provide high-quality resources to students and researchers,” she said in her speech.

“It will amplify the capabilities and effectiveness of its member libraries through resource optimisation, cost efficiency, technological integration and innovation, besides hosting professional development and global connection opportunities.”

Azlinda also expressed her confidence that the direction of the consortium would catalyse positive change and bring out a globally connected education landscape.

UCSI vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Siti Hamisah Tapsir said she welcomed the establishment of the consortium which would bring about benefits to various parties not only to researchers, but also students and academics including the public.

“This consortium aligned with our commitment in providing limitless access to knowledge in higher education,” she said.

“This collaboration is also a way to support our lecturers to enhance and grow their research opportunities.”

UCSI is classified in the world’s top 1% in the QS World University Rankings 2024. Ranked in the top 300, it stands out as one of Asia’s best private universities.
