Lee Yin Hwa

Biography

A native of Malaysia, Lee Yin Hwa, obtained his Bachelors and Masters from Western Illinois University, and a one-year post-graduate study at Boston University under the Dean’s scholarship. His principal teachers include Prof. Anthony Di Bonaventura, Prof. Dr Michael Campbell, James Magsig, Rickie Oui and Serena Chow. Yin Hwa was the 3rd prize winner at the 1st Brevard Music Festival piano competition in North Carolina, and concerto competition winner at Western Illinois University. He has worked with international musicians such as Andre Watts, Aldo Mancinelli, Jerome Rose, Bruce Murray, Florence Kirsch, Ying quartet.  He has collaborated with WIU concert choir, University Orchestra and WIU wind ensemble on many of their tours.  

As a performer, he has been heard in many concerts throughout countries in this region and been invited to perform in Japan and South Korea.  In Malaysia, Yin Hwa has been featured on music festivals such as the KK Music Festival and KL Piano Gala.  He is also an avid chamber musician and has collaborated with MPO chamber groups and other distinguished local musicians. Together with his wife, Hee Jung Choi, Yin Hwa has appeared as a piano duo in concerts.  

Yin Hwa is a well sought after clinician and adjudicator. Most recently, he was invited to be an adjudicator and the artistic director of the 1st Southeast Asia (SEA) piano competition.  Other competition engagements that Yin Hwa has been a part of includes The Asia Music Competition (Taiwan) and HKYPAF; The Symphonia’s, Star Quarto’s and Elyon’s Music competitions in Indonesia.
Currently, Yin Hwa serves as an adjunct piano lecturer of UCSI University in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
