NEW STUDENTS AT UCSI UNIVERSITY RECEIVES SPECIAL WELCOME

Kuala Lumpur, 29 April 2009 - New students for the May intake at UCSI University were treated to a grand welcome ceremony which featured the Malaysian Drums Symphony, and performances by alumnus, Lenny Lysandra and Ashley Tan as well as the University’s School of Music students on their first day of Orientation. Five hundred new students turned up for the special event, along with their parents. The showcase performance also included welcoming remarks from the Group President and Vice Chancellor of UCSI University, Peter T.S. Ng and a special welcome video featuring current students of the University.

The special Orientation event also featured an exhibition put up by all of the five faculties at UCSI University. Each booth had a unique story to tell, from videos of past events from the School of Fashion, to tasting new products being developed by the Food Science and Nutrition students.New students were also able to meet the University’s alumni, who came to support the event and to encourage students to excel in whatever they do. Mr. Daniel Wong, a former Management student who graduated in 2003 remembers the time when UCSI University was known as Sedaya College in Taman Segar. “A lot has changed since then, and looking at UCSI University today, and the new facilities the new students can benefit from, I find myself wishing that I were a student all over again,” he said.

The special Orientation event was also attended by wheelchair-bound student, Tiew Kee Yee, accompanied by his mother, Madam Sia Bee Eng. Madam Sia says she enrolled her son at UCSI University as it was the most disabled-friendly campus she has seen in the KL area. Kee Yee, who will be pursuing the UCSI University’s Foundation in Arts programme says that he hopes to continue his studies here in Accountancy once he completes his it.
Stepping into university life straight out of high school can sometimes be daunting and disorienting for the average student. The Orientation period in the first few days of enrollment into university is crucial. It gives students the opportunity to explore the campus, receive correct and crucial information about academic and non-academic matters and generally begin to adapt to university life. UCSI University has taken the traditional Orientation event further by introducing a new format that will not only initiate new students to the exciting University life but also introduce them to the University’s achievements in the hope of propelling them to excel in their chosen fields during and after University life.
