The opening ceremony of the 2-week long Polish Modern Architecture Exhibition held on campus ground from the 4th to 14th September, 2015.

Over 100 students from UCSI University (USCI) attended the opening ceremony of the 2-week long Polish Modern Architecture Exhibition held on campus ground from the 4th to 14th September, 2015. 

Ambassador of Poland in Kuala Lumpur, Marcin Kubiak delivered the opening address at the opening ceremony that was held on the 3rd of September, 2015. The opening ceremony was also graced by Dr Marek Kozłowski, lecturer at University Putra Malaysia and the curator of this exhibition who briefly highlighted the history and current trends in Polish architecture and urban planning; and Professor Jarosław Suchoples, a Polish historian from University Kebangsaan Malaysia who conducted a presentation on Polish history and its impact on Poland’s architecture trends. 

The exhibition, which consists of 20 frames, presented the most interesting pieces of recent architecture and urban planning in Polish cities: Warsaw, Kraków, Łódź, Poznań, Wrocław and Tricity. The exhibition also seeks to educate the audience on the historical significance of WW2 and Poland’s Solidarity Movement through photos of post-war destruction of the Polish capital. 

Present on that day also was Associate Professor Dr Jimmy Mok Vee Hoong, Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment, UCSI University. Highlighting the Poland-Malaysian cooperation that will bring two communities closer, Dr Jimmy Mok Vee Hoong in his welcoming speech stated "This exhibition, which highlights the modern architectural and urban planning works of Poland, brings Poland to our students, and to the general Malaysian public who would be visiting the exhibition in the next few weeks. We look forward to perhaps one day bring Malaysian architecture to Poland to continue the embassy’s noble efforts.” 

Ambassador Kubiak during his speech emphasised the scale and depth of the changes in architecture, city planning and urbanism that occurred in Poland during the last 25 years. In his speech, he underlined the importance of the political transformation of 1989 and Poland’s accession to the European Union that ultimately enhanced the quality of public spaces in Poland. 

The event also saw both lecturers and students from School of Architecture & Built Environment (SABE) learning exciting new knowledge on Poland’s history and its trends in architecture. 

SABE lecturer Atirah Hazwah highlighted the advantage of this event “A good start to more collaborative efforts where the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and ideas will enrich the minds of the next generation of leaders and architectural practitioners from both nations.” 

The event ended with a discussion between Dr Kozłowski, Professor Suchoples and SABE’s Professor Dr Mohd Tajuddin Bin Mohd Rasdi on impressions from the exhibition.
