The PhD in Architecture at UCSI University is a research-driven program for those seeking to engage architecture as a critical and forward-looking discipline. It provides a platform for candidates to develop original research while crafting their own philosophy of architecture, grounded in theory, context, and emerging challenges....
The program encourages research that not only addresses current architectural issues but also anticipates future industry developments, including shifts in technology, sustainability, culture, and societal needs. Through close supervision and independent inquiry, candidates develop intellectual rigor, critical thinking, and scholarly confidence.
Graduates of the programme are positioned to contribute meaningfully to academia, professional practice, and broader architectural discourse at local and global levels.
Academic Requirements
- Master’s degree (Malaysia Qualification Framework, MQF Level 7) in Architecture or related fields or its equivalent recognised by the University.
English Language Requirements
Minimum score of 6.0 for IELTS Academic; or Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 550 (paper) or 213 (computer based – Testing CBT) or 86+ (Internet Based Test IBT); or minimum score of 107 for Certified Intensive English Programme (CIEP) by ELS
The candidate will be exposed to the various issues of architecture and will be provided a basic training in writing an academic paper. This subject will be a bi-weekly lecture to be completed within one semester.
Each semester, the candidate is required to have a several discussions with the supervisor to receive feedback and to discuss the progress of the research study.
Prior to graduation, the candidate is expected to publish a minimum of 4 papers in a peer-re-reviewed journal or on a peer-reviewed conference paper. An oral presentation is also required, every semester, in front of an academic audience from the faculty. This is to develop the public speaking ability and knowledge sharing.
Notes:
The University may allow exemption for outstanding students to complete their studies within a shorter period.
