Dr. Bong, Prof. Dr. Lee and Mr. Shanker playing host to Dr. Ong

Kuala Lumpur, 12 August 2010 - The Hong Kong Institute of Education sends its senior research team to China, Singapore and Malaysia to interview university leadership on views pertaining to transnational higher education policy and governance in the region.  Professor Joshua K. H. Mok – Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and Chair Professor of Comparative Policy was represented in Malaysia by senior research assistant and lecturer Dr. Ong Kok Chung.  For his visit, Dr. Ong was hosted by Vice Chancellor Dr. Robert Bong in an hour’s interview at the Chancellery, together with Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, Professor Dr. Lee Chai Buan, and Mr. Shanker a/l Sathivellu, the University’s Vice President for Quality Assurance and Enhancement.  The research project aims to produce a comprehensive review of governmental strategies in promoting transnational higher education market in Hong Kong, Singapore, China and Malaysia, with the hope that critical reflections and insights could be drawn from an intensive comparison among those cases.

The Hong Kong Institute of Education (www.ied.edu.hk) has a heritage of 70 years in teacher training.  Established in 1994, it is the only University Grants Committee-funded institution in Hong Kong dedicated solely to professional teacher education.  It is a union of the former Northcote College of Education, Grantham College of Education, Sir Robert Black College of Education, the Hong Kong Technical Teachers' College and the Institute of Language in Education.
