SMJK Jit Sin – Winner of Science and Maths Quiz 2021 National Level


KUALA LUMPUR, 24 August 2021 – Three students from SMJK Jit Sin emerged as winners of Science and Maths Quiz 2021 National Level (virtual edition) organised by Faculty of Applied Sciences of UCSI University and UCSI College after beating 171 other schools from across the country, recently.

Tan Kai Wei, Loh Hong Sheng and Francis Teoh Dun Yong were each awarded RM1000 in cash, a certificate and 100% tuition fee waiver in bursaries to study at UCSI.

Second place was won by SMJK Phor Tay team (Lim Hui Yi, Stephanie Yeap Zi Hui and Wun Lim Zhe) while third place went to SMK Seri Mutiara team (Au Yong Mun Keng, Kenzy Wong Chee Chow and Chiew Yuit Shuin Ryan) and each of them brought home cash prizes of RM500 and RM300 respectively in addition to bursaries, of which tuition fees were waived up to RM 45,000 at UCSI, along with the certificate.

Vice-Chancellor and Founder of UCSI University, Dato’ Peter Ng said that the competition organised for the eighth time aims to cultivate the importance of science and mathematics in daily lifestyle.

"Where science itself is a healthy lifestyle that could be practiced, create awareness and convey to the loved ones," he said when speaking at the launch of the National Science and Mathematics Quiz 2021 (virtual edition), recently.

The competition, which was held virtually for the first time due to the pandemic that hit the world, also aims to test the knowledge and thinking speed of the participants in the subjects of science, mathematics, biology, chemistry and physics as well as to drive the potential of students in these fields.

This time, the competition received 172 entries from schools nationwide based on the theme ‘Nutrition for Life’ where the element was translated into quiz questions apart from relating to pure science and mathematics.

The competition is divided into two stages, which namely the screening stage which was conducted on 17 July 2021 and the final stage where only 140 teams compete to win the title on 30 July 2012.

At the screening stage, each team of three participants from various schools will compete at their respective state levels by answering 60-minute online quiz questions. Then, the 10 teams with the highest scores will be selected to the final stage.
