STUDENTS CELEBRATE UCSI UNIVERSITY’S 25TH ANNIVERSARY WITH UNIFEST

THOUSANDS ATTEND CONCERT TO CELEBRATE SILVER JUBILEE

Kuala Lumpur, 21 May, 2011 - UCSI University celebrated its 25th Anniversary in a big way. Unifest 2011- Rise of Rhythm, an outdoor concert held at the University’s hilltop, in partnership with Maxis had a definite celebratory atmosphere, with the attendance of close to 4000 members of the public. Aside from celebrating the University’s Silver Jubilee, the concert was also a way for the University to support Malaysia’s musical talent. The concert featured local pop icon, Mizz Nina, One Buck Short, Kyoto Protocol, Reza Salleh, An Honest Mistake, Busco, beat-boxer Shawn Lee and many others. The event was hosted by 8TV Quickie’s Naqib and Megan. 

Although the event began at 7.30PM with a light rain shower, the weather did not dampen the spirits of the students and youths, who turned up in full force to catch the first performance of the night. Free gifts were given away from the stage to the early birds. 

The show began with electrifying moves from the dancing group Rufffneckz’, which in turn set the mood for the night. The music band An Honest Mistake continued with celebratory mood, as they perfromed Gunslinger and Vanessa to a receptive crowd. 

Mizz Nina, fresh from her latest single What You Waiting For was greeted enthusiastically by the audience. Backed by powerful vocals and a dance crew, she performed three songs to the eager crowd. Reza Salleh, then charmed everyone with his accoustical performance. The audience continued to sing along to his songs even though it was still drizzling. 

The 2009 Malaysian Beatbox Champion, Shawn Lee entranced the crowd with this beatbox skills, living up to his title as a world-class beatboxer. Alexis Chean, Astro’s Star Quest 2008 winner as well as Busco also got the crowd excited. Local indie giants, Kyoto Protocol also performed to an appreciative crowd that night. 

One Buck Short closed the night with several of their hit singles while DJ Nicky C concluded the event with an open dance floor. 

Throughout the night, the audience received lucky draw gifts from Maxis, worth RM138 each, Laurent Bleu Skin Science and Wellness hampers worth RM160 each as well as Ayam Brand hampers. The much awaited grand prize of an iPhone4 from Maxis however, went to Philip Ng, a second year UCSI University Business Administration student. 

Unifest has become an annual event for UCSI University since 2008, when it first became a full-fledged University. This year, it celebrates the University’s 25 year journey from a humble computer training centre in Petaling Jaya, to what it is today – a home-grown University offering more than 70 programmes across 3 campuses in Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak and Terengganu.
