THEY DID IT - WITH PANACHE!

Terengganu, 11 Jun 2010 - They may look like just another cohort of students graduating from UCSI University this July. Indeed, more similar to a group of young men and women leaving the ivory tower of academia into the challenging world of professional practices.  But to the Class of 2010 from the School of Medicine, they were leaving school with joy, as all 33 of them had passed their medical final examinations in their first sitting.

Nothing is more laudable than having the entire class qualify for a medical degree TOGETHER.  Nothing is more euphoric than to have learned that they had not all just passed their examinations, they had also been accredited TOGETHER.

According to Professor Dr. Jammal Bin Essa, Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences the university is celebrating a double-joy. Not only was its first batch of medical students graduating together as full-fledge doctors, but the medical degree programme had also received full accreditation after just one round of audit. The accreditation signifies that UCSI University medical school’s standard mirrors the standards and requirements set by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) and the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

As the pioneering class of medical students from UCSI University’s Kuala Terengganu campus, the students had initially faced various challenges. Despite some not so accommodating experiences encountered when they first arrived at the brand new campus, the students had stayed focused and steadfast to reach their goal of qualifying as medical doctors. Through this experience, the students had developed a strong bond and this will prepare them for a lifelong kinship that makes them uniquely successful as doctors with great attributes.

To celebrate their accomplishment, and to thank their professors, lecturers and consultants from the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital before they each begin their housemanship at various government hospitals in the country, the Class of 2010 recently organised a dinner function at Primula Beach Hotel, Terengganu to mark the occasion.  Joining them at the dinner were parents, faculty and senior staff members, and the Vice Chancellor of the university, Dr. Robert Bong.

Class 2010 will graduate with more than 1,000 graduands at the university’s 24th Convocation to be held on 24 July 2010 in Kuala Lumpur.
