UCSI’s Raises About RM100,000 For Flood Victims In Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 12 — UCSI University and UCSI College respectively held a musical concert and sold items online to raise funds to help those who have been displaced and affected by the recent floods in the country.

In total, both, the University and College, raised RM97,910.85 in January through these initiatives.

Last Saturday, the University held a concert that featured classical and contemporary pieces, which was performed by UCSI University’s Pro- Chancellor YAM Tunku Zain Al-‘Abidin ibni Tuanku Muhriz and several other maestros (Bartosz Woroch, Ng Chong Lin, Poom Prommachart and Foo Mei Yi) including those from the University’s renowned Institute of Music (IMus).

At the concert, Tunku Zain said: “This donation drive is timely and much needed. I thank every one of you this afternoon for your contribution.”

Of the total of RM67,910.85 raised from the concert, RM10,000 were channelled to the Ministry of Higher Education’s ‘Tabung Bantuan Banjir’, and RM28,955.40 each to Lions Club KL, and Malaysian Red Crescent (Selangor) to aid in their respective flood relief initiatives.

On the same day, the College together with a group professional live streamers carried out the live streaming event to raise funds for the flood victims. It was held as part of the Certificate of Live Streaming programme that was approved and supported by KPT-PACE.

Items such as health products and face masks, among others, were sold to raise a total of RM30,000.

“We wanted to expose our students in a live event where influencers and professional live streamers train our students and at the same time give back to society. The floods that happened in December 2021 devastated many low-lying areas in Malaysia and many Malaysian students were left homeless and they need help to restart their lives like buying daily necessities or even computers or laptops to continue their studies,” said UCSI College President and Chief Executive Officer Associate Professor Dr Mabel Tan Hwee Joo.

Funds raised by the College were channelled to the Ministry of Higher Education’s ‘Tabung Bantuan Banjir’.
