KUALA LUMPUR, 8 June 2022 -  Malaysia’s top private university, UCSI University received a prestigious award on “QS Recognition for Improvement” from QS World University Rankings 2023, establishing it as the first and only Malaysian university to be bestowed with such honour and for showcasing the most improved university in rankings, on average.

The award was received by UCSI University’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Kuala Lumpur Campus) Professor Dato’ Dr Toh Kian Kok at the 7th Edition of the EduData Summit (EDS) in New York, USA.

In addition to the recognitions, UCSI University has climbed 63 spots in its ranking to be one of the world’s top 284 universities, according to the QS World University Rankings 2023. With this, UCSI University continues to be placed among the top 0.9% of the world’s universities. UCSI is also placed the 6th position in all Malaysian universities and ranked highest within the private university sector in the country.

UCSI Group CEO and UCSI University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Datuk Ir Ts Dr Siti Hamisah Binti Tapsir said the “QS Recognition for Improvement” award is a testament to our dedication to academic achievements since our establishment in 1986. “This recognition will enable UCSI to create new opportunities for future collaboration with local and international partners,” said Professor Datuk Ir Ts Dr Siti Hamisah Tapsir.

Over the years, the University has transformed itself into a world-class research-intensive university with a focus on inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary approaches towards academics and research.

“Continuous improvement is part of our culture at UCSI University and as an institution of higher education, it is our duty to serve our community by providing the best educational opportunities for our students,” she explained adding that the university is confident that the recognition will attract other academic institutions to engage with UCSI University to participate in research development, academic improvement, SDG initiatives, and nation-building efforts.

Professor Datuk Ir Ts Dr Siti Hamisah Tapsir also said the university’s excellent performance in the 2023 QS World University Rankings is proud enough to send a strong signal to our stakeholders and partners that UCSI University is committed to producing high-quality academic studies, advanced research-oriented talent, and job-ready graduates.

“The ranking results confirm that UCSI University is an internationally competitive university and has been recognised for its diverse areas of success. This is our biggest achievement and I would like to extend my heartiest congratulations to all our stakeholders and partners, not forgetting our professors, researchers, lecturers, deans, and students for their hard work and support to lead the institution to global recognition,” she said.

This is the university’s fifth year of improvement since entering the QS World University Rankings exercise in 2019. Previously, UCSI University was Malaysia’s best private university for two years in a row, according to the QS World University Rankings 2019 and 2020.

Based on the recent Malaysia's Higher Education Ministry’s Graduate Employability 2021 survey, all UCSI’s programmes have received a 100% employability score, thus making UCSI University graduates highly employable.

In championing the United Nations’ Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs), the University is now recognised as the Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) by United Nations University. It is also the first private university in Malaysia to be so acknowledged.
