UCSI bridges industry-education divide with Career Fair

KUALA LUMPUR: The UCSI University (UCSI) Career Fair event held on July 9 and 10, 2015 was a great success, attracting over 1,600 attendees.

This on-campus job fair was a collaboration by UCSI and CareerTour, the largest in-campus job fair organiser. The event served as a platform to help create a connection between businesses and academia. Companies had the opportunity to interview students on the spot and brand their companies among the younger generation.

According to UCSI University Vice-Chancellor and President, Senior Prof Dato’ Dr Khalid Yusoff, the University aims to provide students with an education that is not isolated from the working world.

“We wish to provide an education that will enhance our students’ global exposure and further increase their competitive edge in the market. And we are committed to provide students with a unique learning environment – a fusion of both classroom learning and practical hands-on experience.”

Over three dozen indoor booths were filled with representatives from wide-ranging industries such as healthcare, finance, ICT and multimedia, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), engineering, and telecommunication. The exhibitors included RHB Banking Group, Nestle Malaysia, Shell, U Mobile, and Berjaya Corporation Berhad.

The opening ceremony on day one was officiated by Senior Prof Dato’ Dr Khalid, and Mr Koh Swee Hyong, Vice-President of UCSI Student Affairs and Alumni.

In his speech, Senior Prof Dato’ Dr Khalid urged the students to fully grasp this opportunity to form partnerships with potential employers.

“Understanding the world of work before you start searching for a career path that suits your interests, values and work preferences is very important,” he said.

UCSI Mass Communication student Lim Eu-Gene was thrilled to attend a career fair on campus grounds.

“This is a great and convenient opportunity for students such as myself to gain vital information of the future companies we wish to work with. It makes me happy to know that UCSI is constantly assisting their students to gain employment opportunities.”

UCSI Career Fair 2015 also includes career talks by individuals from renowned companies such as RHB, CharterPrime Corporation and Top Glove Corporation Berhad. The career talks gave the recruiters an opportunity to connect directly with students on issues relating to professional development and educational opportunities.
