UCSI students impress crowd with glamorous evening dresses

KUALA LUMPUR: Students from UCSI University’s (UCSI) De Institute of Art & Design (DIAND) were recently invited by ‘My Wedding’ – a well-known Malaysian wedding magazine – to participate in their ninth annual wedding exhibition at Mid Valley.

The annual exhibit cum fashion show was a vibrant display of glitzy wedding gowns and evening dresses, inspired by various themes.

Attended by designers, makeup artists and respected names in the world of fashion, the event provided the ideal avenue for students to showcase their creativity to a diverse audience.

20 elegant evening dresses with intricate detailing – designed by DIAND students – which were worn by leggy models who strut down the fashion runway drew a loud round of applause from the audience.

Interestingly, the models were also UCSI students who did not have any modelling experience but were able to flaunt the designs in a confident manner.

The beautiful designs elicited positive comments from head of DIAND’s Fashion Design Department Nur Mashita Bt. Kamalun Ariffin.

“Although they have yet to master fashion knowledge and skills, (I am proud that) our students were able to showcase their creativity and talent in their designs,” she said, adding that the dresses were created by DIAND’s fashion students.

“Through industry-related events such as this, (I believe that) they are able to gain valuable industry experience and interact with industry experts; this experience will surely help them in their future career.”

Chief editor of “My Wedding” magazine Lim Hooi Hia also heaped effusive praise on the designs by UCSI students: “Overall, I can see (much potential) in the students; some of the designs were indeed very eye-catching and I hope to see more in the future.”
