UCSI UNIVERSITY’S BIZPLAN COMPETITION EXTENDS REGISTRATION DEADLINE

Kuala Lumpur, 12 Oct 2010 - UCSI University’s BizPlan Competition 2010 has extended its registration deadline! Applicants are now able to submit their proposals until 29 Oct., more than a month later than its original 13 Sept. deadline.

The business competition is organised by UCSI University’s Faculty of Management and Information Technology (FoMIT) and the Centre of Excellence for Research, Value Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CERVIE). Promoting the University’s “ideation toward innovation” philosophy, the business competition is open to all UCSI University students, faculty and staff to encourage entrepreneurship.

To participate, teams of three must submit a business plan in the category of either products or services, including a hard and soft copy description of the plan plus a video tape of a 2-3 minute “elevator pitch” to describe the project. The business plan should detail the commercial viability of the project, and teams are encouraged to provide proof of concept for the idea.

Five finalists from each category will be selected to formally present their business plans to an external board of judges on Event Day, 27 Nov., where winners will be chosen. Top product-based plans will then continue to compete in the national MSC Malaysia – IHL Business Plan Competition (MIBPC) 15 Dec. where winners may earn up to RM10,0000 prize money and the chance to apply for grant money to start their projects. CERVIE will also be providing RM50,000, RM30,000 and RM10,000 seed grants for the top three projects it finds promising.

UCSI University participated in the MIBPC contest in 2009, but this is the first year the University has hosted its own, formal competition internally and plans to make it an annual event.
