UCSI UNIVERSITY CARNIVAL WITH RICOH DRAWS THOUSANDS

CARNIVAL PART OF UNIVERSITY’S 25TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS

Kuala Lumpur, 21 May 2011 - Thousands of students, staff, parents and community members graced the UCSI University Carnival with Ricoh at the University’s Kuala Lumpur campus. The carnival, in partnership with Ricoh Malaysia, marked the University’s official 25th anniversary and was part of a series of silver jubilee celebrations taking place from January 2011 to May 2012.

With a series of games, performances, food, talks and give-aways, the free event was part of the University’s community outreach programme to share the celebration of its milestone anniversary with both its internal and external community. It was also a celebration of the different cultures of the University’s three campuses in Kuala Lumpur, Terengganu and Sarawak and featured the unique culture of each of them including traditional crafts, dances, games, cooking demonstrations and a replica of an Iban longhouse.

Releasing 250 red and white balloons with the UCSI University and Ricoh logo into the air, UCSI University Founder and Chairman of UCSI Group, Dato’ Peter Ng, launched the event, together with his wife Datin Lily Ng, as well as Dr Robert Bong, UCSI University Vice Chancellor, Dato' (Dr) Hj Mohd Karim Hj Abdullah Omar, Chairman of UCSI University Foundation, and Mr Lim Eng Weng, Managing Director of Ricoh Malaysia.

In his welcome address, Dr Bong acknowledged the support of those who have helped the University to reach its milestone anniversary.

“It has only been through the support of the community that we have been able to develop into the University that we are today,” He said. “Ultimately, it is for the benefit of the general public that we do what we do. So today’s carnival is our way of saying thank you to all of you.”

In addition to games and performances, other highlights of the carnival included inflatable playgrounds, wall-climbing, and scuba-diving in the University pool. Ricoh Malaysia also hosted its own activities, including, prize giveaways, photos with the vibrant Ricoh Girls and its “Go Eco with Ricoh” campaign. Participants also had the chance to take part in lucky draws, including the chance to win holiday packages to the Belum Eco Resort, book vouchers from MPH Bookstore and a grand prize of a return ticket to Sydney, Australia from Malaysia Airlines (MAS). Booths by MAS Holidays and Firefly were also set up, with special discounts available for those who purchased their tickets at the Carnival.

UCSI University student Dorah Matlou took home the grand prize return ticket to Sydney, Australia. The Botswana native said she has always dreamed of going to Australia.

“I’m really excited to win,” she said. “I was so surprised, but I was just waiting and praying that I won.”
