UCSI University donates over RM700,000 for Palestinian students’ education

PUTRAJAYA, 22 May 2019 – UCSI University set aside a total sum of RM719,433 in scholarships for Palestinian students to pursue their tertiary and postgraduate education at its institution.

The “Scholarship for Palestine” sponsorship mooted by the Ministry of Education is meant to symbolise the solidarity of the higher learning industry in its humanitarian effort for oppressed Palestinians.

UCSI’s Vice-Chancellor and President Academician Senior Professor Dato’ Dr Khalid Yusoff presented the cheque to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad at the 9th Grand Iftar with the Palestinian community at Putrajaya.

“The willingness of Malaysian institutions to provide scholarships for those in need signifies a pact of concord and peace," Dr Mahathir said.

Other than UCSI, 11 other universities contributed to the goodwill effort, which was channelled through the Palestinian Cultural Organisation Malaysia (PCOM).
