Kuala Lumpur, 28 February, 2011 - UCSI University launched the Apple Experience Centre at its Kuala Lumpur Campus today in a bid to bring newer digital technology to its students. The University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Professor Dr. Lee Chai Buan launched the Centre together with Mr Lee Thuan Teik, Sales Director for Tristar Digital, an authorised dealer for Apple which will be operating the centre. More than 200 students attended the opening ceremony to participate in the lucky draws and for a glimpse of the products on display, which included laptops, desktops, i-pads and i-pods. Prof. Lee became the Apple Centre’s first customer, with the purchase of her very own i-pad. 

Students as well as staff members were particularly excited over the lucky draw competition; with more than 1000 participating for a chance of winning the grand prize of an i-pad. Two consolation prizes, the i-pod shuffle were also up for grabs. The first prize went to Mr Pakiraji @ Pakiraju s/o S. Ramaya, a laboratory technologist with the University. Consolations prizes went to second year Pharmacy student, Ang Yan Kher and first year Applied Sciences student, Caleb Choong.

With the opening of the Apple Experience Centre, UCSI University students and staff can enjoy a maximum of 7 per cent exclusive discounts on normal retail prices. Earlier in the year, UCSI University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Tristar Digital in a smart partnership to bring Apple technology into the classrooms, specifically, to the University’s School of Information Technology. Subsequently, it will also conduct free workshops to educate students on the latest audio, photo and video software. 

The Apple Experience Centre is just one of UCSI University’s initiatives to bring in the latest technology to its students. In the works also is an agreement with Maxis to set up a similar store within the Campus, with special rates, packages and products for students.
