UCSI University Logistics Student Association Industry Visit to PKT Logistics


Kuala Lumpur, 14th February 2012 - The Logistics Student Association (LSA) from UCSI University organized an industry visit to PKT Logistics Group Sdn. Bhd. for the purpose of an industrial exposure to its students. Forty students including the Diploma and Bachelor programmes in Logistics Management accompanied by a lecturer from the University, had participated in this visit.

They received a warm welcome from Ayman, the GCA officer of PKT Logistics and Ronnie Chung, the Deputy General Manager of Security and Maintenance. The visit was officiated by Mr P'ng Tean Hau, the Group Chief Operating Officer who presented the company's profile. In addition, the students were honoured to have Dato' Michael Tio, the Group Chief Executive and Managing Director, to share his deep thoughts on his strategic moves in his speech.

Established in 1974, the PKT Logistics which began as a custom brokerage and providing service provider, is now focussed on total logistics services including Automotive, FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods), F&B and Renewable Energy. It is now recognized by their clients as a superior supply chain management service provider.

According to Dato' Michael Tio, "the Logistics industry is a well-developed industry. PKT Logistics provides internship opportunities to UCSI University's students for there are wide career opportunities with PKT Logistics".

PKT Logistics' vision is to target the revenue contribution ratio of 60:40 between Automotive and Non Automotive segment by the year 2013, a revenue contribution of 30% with other Asean countries including India, Korea and Taiwan by the year 2013, a revenue target of RM1 billion by the year 2015, and warehouse ownership area of 5 million sq-ft. in Asia by the year 2015.        

The LSA President, Chris Wong Kang Shen says, "The visit was very meaningful to me as I learnt a lot about industrial logistics such as the designation layout of the warehouse. I am inspired by Dato' Michael Tio's speech as a dedicated leader with high vision and mission for his company. I hope that I can adopt his planning skills in my career in the future."

Muhannad A. Sukkar who is the LSA Vice President says, "I've learnt how to apply what I studied in UCSI University and I now really understand the practical processes of the warehouse such as in-bound and out-bound applications of the warehouse. I noticed the great management practises that PKT Logistics exercises, such as effective communication skills between the employer and employees, and also the teamwork practises of the different cultures which help to get the work done successfully."             

This industrial visit had benefited the students in many aspects in terms of industrial logistics and the students hope there would be a lot of opportunities to join more industrial visits organised by the University.
