UCSI University welcomed new students during Orientation Day

KUALA LUMPUR: UCSI University (UCSI) welcomed its new intake of students for the May 2015 semester during the recent orientation.

Over 900 new students and their parents attended the orientation that took place in UCSI Dewan Tan Sri Ahmad Razali (DeTSAR). The ceremony was organised by the Student Affairs & Alumni Division and the Student Council,

The orientation began with a warm speech by UCSI Vice-Chancellor and President, Senior Prof Dato’ Dr Khalid Yusoff. In his speech, he shared UCSI’s outstanding student achievements and pointed out that the new students could also be excellent achievers like their seniors.

“Those are what they have done, there are others that you can do. Together we can make it happen. You can do it, if you want to; you can’t do it, if you have already decided not to,” he said.

President of the Student Council, Muhammad Imran Bin Shukri also gave an inspiring speech.

“Your views and your personality will determine your experience in the University. Take my advice. Make new friends, respect one another, play a full part in the University community, and make your University life truly memorable.”

After the speeches, the guests were entertained by students of the Institute of Music (IMus) who rocked the stage with two amazing songs – Waiting On The World To Change by John Mayer and UCSI University’s anthem entitled Be That Eagle written by Grace Foo, the alumna of IMus.

To ensure the new students adapt well to their new surroundings, the event included various briefings. These include briefings on each faculty, Peer-Assisted Learning, on the Industry & Community Engagement in UCSI and group discussions.

To establish friendships between seniors and juniors, and enhance the student experience at UCSI, the new students were also engaged in fun games, ice-breaking sessions and the Senior-Junior Session where the new students met the seniors in their respective programmes.

Amongst the ice-breaking activities were Photo Scavenger Hunt, Shape Shift, The Maze and Puzzle Mania.

The myriad of activities and welcoming atmosphere of the orientation clearly made an impression on the new students.

For siblings Ahmed Ziad Fawzi, Maryam Zeyan Fawzi, and Abdalla Ziad Fawzi from Iraq, the variety of activities made an impact to them.

“We are having a lot of fun here in UCSI. There are so many activities and we would love to be part of each of them,” said Ahmed Ziad Fawzi.
