Kuala Lumpur, 29 April 2010 - UCSI University’s new intake of students for this year’s May session and their accompanying parents were pleasantly surprised at the welcome ceremony which awaited them on their first day on campus. They were personally greeted by the University’s Vice Chancellor, Dr. Robert Bong and were treated to a performance by international artiste and violinist, Dennis Lau.

The Welcome Ceremony for all new students started last year and has helped students adjust to their new life on campus. The Welcome Ceremony was followed by Orientation sessions by the University’s Student Council and their respective faculties.

Dr. Robert Bong addressed both students and parents, assuring them that they are in good hands at UCSI University. “As in many universities in the world, the positive experience students enjoy while they pursue their course of studies has often prompted them to continue a life-long relationship with the university.” Dr. Bong also says that this is one of the main reasons why UCSI University is keen to establish a continuing relationship with the students from day one, which continues throughout their tenure here, culminating in the alumni network after graduation.

Currently, UCSI University is the second home for the international students who came from more than 70 countries make up 38% of the student population. According to Dr. Bong, this promotes a positive cultural exchange for all students, right here on campus.

During the welcome ceremony, students and parents were treated to a 20-minute performance by popular violinist Dennis Lau, together with saxophonist Jimmy Sax. Other items also include a sword skill performance by Jin Lin a 2^nd year student from the Faculty of Management and Information Technology accompanied by Li Xue Cen also a second year student also from the same Faculty on the Guzheng, a traditional Chinese instrument. The University’s School of Music student band later entertained the students with popular pop and jazz numbers.
