WEST SYNERGY AND UCSI INK EDUCATION TOWNSHIP DEAL


KUALA LUMPUR, 4 February 2008 - West Synergy Sdn. Bhd. (a member of The MUI Group in joint venture with Chin Teck Plantations Berhad) and UCSI Education Sdn. Bhd. have entered into an agreement for the establishment of an education township on a 160-acre piece of land situated at Bandar Springhill, Negeri Sembilan.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Deputy Prime Minister, YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd. Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak, the Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan, YAB Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad Haji Hasan and the Minister of Higher Education, YB Dato’ Mustapa Mohamed who was represented by Dato’ Prof. Dr Hassan bin Said, the Director General of the Department of Higher Education.

According to UCSI Group President and Vice Chancellor Peter T. S. Ng, the education township will be developed in 3 phases. The first phase will see the development of a fully-equipped international school with residential facilities, and a state-of-the-art 500-bed medical centre.This will be followed by the development of the main campus of the group’s flagship university, UCSI. This main campus will house a Faculty of Medical Sciences offering academic programmes in medicine, nursing, optometry and physiotherapy, a Faculty of Management & Information Technology, a Faculty of Applied Sciences, a Centre for Pre-University Studies, and a centre dedicated to continuous research into Blue Ocean Strategy. 

The third phase will see the development of an incubation centre for UCSI’s subsidiaries and spin-off companies resulting from its research and discovery efforts, an applied nursery for research, and commercial facilities for the green industry to promote eco-tourism in Malaysia. There are also plans to include facilities for Marine Biology Studies in this final phase. 

It is anticipated that, once all the phases of the project are completed, there would be thousands of jobs and business opportunities created for both the local and wider communities. 
This multi-million Ringgit, 3-phase project is targeted for completion in 2016. 

Bandar Springhill is developed by West Synergy Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between MUI Properties Berhad and Chin Teck Plantations Berhad. It is a long-term development which aims to open up a new growth corridor for Negeri Sembilan.
