KUALA LUMPUR - Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli launched the inaugural Malaysia Towerrunning University Championship at UCSI University.

Held at UCSI’s Kuala Lumpur campus on 18 May 2024, the championship is endorsed by the Youth and Sports Ministry, as well as the Higher Education Ministry. The championship is co-organised by UCSI and the Malaysian Towerruning Association. It is open to participants from public and private higher education institutions across Malaysia. “While tower running may still be a relatively new sport, many of the world’s most prestigious skyscrapers are hosting competitions,” said Adam in his speech. “Malaysia already has the world’s number one tower runner in Soh Wai Ching and this competition will go far in nurturing the next generation of tower runners.

“I would like to affirm UCSI for its commitment to the development of sports in Malaysia. The Ministry champions initiatives like tower running as it is a highly accessible sport that brings many health benefits.” Adam also thanked UCSI for providing more than 150 scholarships to national and state-level athletes over the years.

UCSI vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Siti Hamisah Tapsir said the intervarsity championship was a great way to foster engagement between students and institutions across the nation.

“This championship is not a one-time affair but a reflection of our commitment in encouraging athletic excellence and promoting a culture of sportsmanship,” she said in her speech.

Higher Education assistant director Nur Azreen Hamidi and Soh were also present at the event. UCSI is classified in the world’s top 1% in the QS World University Rankings 2024. Ranked in the top 300, it stands out as one of Asia’s best private universities.
